Our Greatest Adventures
From the Baltimore Clubhouse – I struck the mother lode…
It was a Friday night.
I was sitting under a vibrant Chihuly sculpture listening to a Russian pianist’s Rachmaninov-inspired variation of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”
(I never thought I’d write that sentence.)
I looked over at the Chairman’s Circle Member next to me and – like me – his mouth was open in awe.
I had been with the Club for only a year. But already I knew I had stumbled upon something special.
It was the Club’s 17th Annual Investment U Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Just this week, I received my hotel confirmation for the Club’s 20th Annual Investment U Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. Knowing what I have to look forward to in March, I got a bit nostalgic.
As you know, the Club’s strategists are on the road often with our World Financial Seminars Team. So I asked them, “What’s your best memory from an Oxford Club event?”
Here’s what they had to say…

In 2013, I led a trip to Israel (I’m leading another one in November 2018. If you’d like to receive more information, email Barb Perriello). We met with many companies, both public and private – mostly in the technology and healthcare fields. We even met with the now governor of the Bank of Israel – the Israeli equivalent of Janet Yellen.
At one medical device company, the CEO asked for a volunteer from our group to demonstrate a noninvasive device that measures blood volume.
About a year later, I ran into the volunteer at The Oxford Club’s Investment U Conference. I was glad to see him and looking forward to reminiscing about the Israel trip. Before I could say anything, he grabbed my arm, got close and looked into my eyes.
“That trip to Israel saved my life,” he said.
I asked him what he meant.
He told me he had a stroke a few months after he returned from the trip. He had the information from when he volunteered at the medical device company on him. His doctors were able to use the data to better treat him. They told him it likely saved his life.
I’ve had a lot of people tell me they’ve made money from my recommendations or that they enjoyed my book. And it’s very rewarding to hear how I’ve positively affected people’s finances.
But to hear that I was part of something that literally saved this gentleman’s life was incredibly profound. It’s something I’ll never forget.

My favorite moment was on safari at The Oxford Club’s Financial Discovery Tour to South Africa. We were driving through the bush, and one of the Members saw a giraffe in the distance. She revealed that she has been enamored of giraffes since she was a little girl.
She asked the guide if we could get closer. The guide responded that if she wanted to, not only would he get the vehicle closer but she could get out and walk toward the giraffe until it ran away. She got to within 10 yards on foot.
When she returned, she was crying with joy as one of her oldest childhood fantasies was realized. It was a very poignant moment.

My most recent favorite event was the Chairman’s Circle River Cruise from Budapest to Passau.
We had been together on board and on shore excursions for eight days, and had gotten to know each other well. The last night at dinner, we laughed so hard about things we had seen and done during the trip that I’m surprised we weren’t asked to leave the dining room.
The amazing part of The Oxford Club is that we really are like-minded. Having the chance to spend time with the Members is the best part of the job.
These are just a few of many incredible Oxford Club adventures. And there are many more on the way.
In fact, The Oxford Club’s 2018 calendar is filling up fast.
One of our favorite events each year is the Club’s Annual Investment U Conference. This year, we’re celebrating 20 years in Vegas. All of the Club’s experts will be in attendance from March 15-18.
If this is anything like that evening sitting under the Chihuly – and I suspect it will be – you won’t want to miss it.
