Curb Volatility With These Unconventional Assets
Dear Member,
As stock investors, we like reassurance.
We like to see the asset chart that shows how stocks outperform gold, bonds and T-bills:
But what we seldom see is the performance of noncorrelated asset classes… the assets that few investors ever consider.
And investors who don’t consider them are making a huge mistake.
Many rare tangible assets and fine collectibles sectors have outperformed stocks over the long term.
For example, the Stanley Gibbons Rare Stamp Index is up 166% over the past 10 years. The S&P is up only 99%. The Fine Art Fund’s Contemporary Art Index has also outperformed the S&P over the last 10 years.
At our recent Investment U Conference, rare tangible asset expert Geoff Anandappa proudly handed me a piece of paper… on it was a brand-new index from his firm Stanley Gibbons: the Rare First Edition Book Index.
Over the past 10 years, the Rare First Edition Book Index has gone up 113%. As I mentioned earlier, the S&P is up only 99% over the same period.
On today’s Market Wake-Up Call, Host Steve McDonald interviews metals and collectibles expert Rich Checkan. Rich is head of Asset Strategies International, one of the Club’s oldest Pillar One Advisors. ASI is a boutique advisory and brokerage firm that has been in business for 34 years.
Today, Rich talks about gold’s latest upswing and other well-performing assets outside of the stock market. He reveals the “magic number” that indicates we’ve hit the bottom for metals and mining.
As we know, the Metals and Mining Select Industry Index has been one of the best-performing indexes this year. So far, it is up 41.28%. Comparatively, the S&P is up only 3.13%.
Rich explains to Steve how investors can best hedge their stock and bond portfolios for the rest of this year. (For more information on ASI, click here.)
We have already experienced crazy volatility this year. We expect it to continue. I agree with Rich… Investors should be hedging their bets. They should invest in rare tangible assets that have proven to outperform the S&P over the long run.
This is why The Oxford Club is co-sponsoring a special event with Beyond the Dollar LLC and Stanley Gibbons this fall in New York City.
Our 2nd Annual Investing in Fine Art and Rare Tangible Assets Seminar will take place October 24-25 at The London NYC. Speakers will include experts from The Oxford Club, Beyond the Dollar, ASI and Stanley Gibbons.
