The Sting of Rock-Bottom Retirement

From the Baltimore Clubhouse – Oxford Club Members truly are something else…

Last week, we asked you for some feedback.

As of this morning, a whopping 824 of you have responded.

Your comments truly humbled us…

I am thrilled to be a Member of The Oxford Club because it offers me the opportunity to educate myself and to build knowledge and the kind of wealth and stability that I can pass on to my family. I believe this will be my legacy, and I can’t think of anything better to be able to give my children. I am looking forward to a long-term commitment… AND I’m prepared to have some fun while I’m at it! What could be better than that?!

We agree, what could be better?

The Oxford Club has helped me realize my dream by helping me develop another retirement source through stock trading. I always wanted to trade stocks when I retired, and The Oxford Club has given me valuable insights into stocks that have given me great returns.

But not all the feedback we received was this positive.

In fact, there was a dark side to some of your feedback that needs to be addressed immediately

We are a retired couple with a fixed income. Half is Social Security. The balance is from several pensions, some very small. I have been disabled since 2006. I was able to work until February of 2014. My husband has been retired since 1999.

The financial crisis of 2008 was very hard on us. We were married in July of ‘08. By February of ‘09, my husband’s credit card debt and my ‘07 medical bankruptcy combined to wipe out all of my savings and half of my husband’s. Since then we have rebuilt his portfolio. I have none. My husband’s holdings are all in a personal trust that is in his name. We need to address this. We are new Members, looking for strategies to assist us.

We get this kind of feedback more often than you’d think.

My wife and I bought our first house in January 2012 with a VA no-money-down loan. I was retired in 2014, and my wife has been on disability since about 2005. I am in my upper 60s and my wife is in her early 60s. We pay our bills and have food on the table, but that is about all. We were in a car accident November 30, 2016, and don’t have money to buy a replacement, so we rely on friends and family to take us to the store and doctor appointments.

At my present situation, I have no personal goals except to keep our heads above the water.

Stories like these are exactly why we started the Club.

We call it “Rock-Bottom Retirement.”

In fact, we hear this story so often, we’re working on a special project to help Americans overcome the retirement epidemic plaguing our country…

Stay tuned for more information on this project in the days and weeks ahead.

In the meantime, we’d like to hear your story. Have you or someone you know experienced the sting of rock-bottom retirement? If so, share your story by sending us an email at mailbag@oxfordclub.com.

Good investing,

Rachel
