Just 15 miles from the Nevada border, on the edge of the desert, lays an open air pit filled with what could soon be the world's most precious commodity...
This mine – which once produced over 20 million pounds of valuable resources a year – was left to collect dust after competition from China drove it out of business in 2002.
But little did the mine's operators know that some 11 years later, one "junk metal" contained within its walls would prove to be the most powerful metal on Earth...

So how come you've never heard of this incredible fuel source? It has to do with a Cold War experiment that was buried by the Nixon Administration – and a cover-up that lasted almost 40 years.
Sounds like the plot of a James Patterson novel, I know. But I assure you: This technology is 100% real. In fact, as you read this, it's being implemented all over the globe – in India... Japan... Norway... Russia... China... and even the United States.
Don't worry – I'll get back to that Cold War conspiracy stuff in just a moment. But first, I need you to understand that I'm not talking about some weak alternative energy source like solar, which requires over 100 panels – and 500 square feet of roof space – to power even a tiny home.
And I'm certainly not talking about those 300-foot wind turbines that can barely generate enough electricity to run a small neighborhood.

The secret lies in that abandoned mine I described earlier...
Centuries of Clean Energy:
In the mid-1950s, the U.S. Geological Survey found that the mine contains massive deposits of an extremely powerful – yet little-known – element. One that's been considered "junk metal" for more than a hundred years.
Buried Deep Within the Desert
But that's all about to change...
Over the coming months, we believe the value of this metal could rocket as much as 700% or higher.
You see, like uranium, it can be used as a nuclear fuel. Only it produces 10 times more energy... and generates 99.4% less waste.
Even better, a study conducted by the University of Cambridge found that any waste it does produce can be re-used as fuel.

In August 2012, China announced it would spend $350 million to develop a state-of-the-art plant that runs exclusively on this resource.
India has plans to develop dozens of these types of facilities over the next decade. The head of the Indian Atomic Energy Commission has even said the country's "long-term objective goal" is to use this metal to become "energy-independent."
Norway recently teamed up with a well-known Japanese manufacturer to bring its first reactor online in Halden.
And there are plenty more on the way. But they're all going to require massive amounts of this obscure metal.
Which is why that desert mine could soon see a flurry of activity for the first time in over a decade.
The company that owns it just spent close to a billion dollars updating the facility. According to the CEO, it's the "largest, most technologically advanced" mining operation in the world.
But more importantly, it's now the only operational mine in the U.S. that could possibly turn out this incredible resource in mass quantities.
In fact, it could be years – possibly even a decade – before a competitor is able to bring a similar operation online. Which is why this mining company is positioned to become the top global supplier of this resource for the foreseeable future.
And you better believe Wall Street insiders have taken notice...

200 Times More Powerful Than Uranium...
Named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder, this "junk metal" offers all the benefits of conventional nuclear energy and virtually none of the drawbacks. It's powerful, carbon-free and cost-effective.
And "No More Harmful Than a Bar of Soap"
According to Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Carlo Rubbia, it "might just be a magic bullet" in our quest for a cheap, clean and safe alternative to uranium.
It's easy to see why...
A piece the size of a bowling ball can produce the same amount of energy as 440 million cubic feet of liquid natural gas.
One pound is the energy equivalent of3.5 million pounds of coal.
But most important of all, thorium issafe. As I mentioned earlier, the metal is non-fissile – so unlike uranium, there's no risk of it spontaneously splitting atoms and blowing up.
Or, as Wired energy expert Richard Martin put it, "a chunk of thorium is no more harmful than a bar of soap."
In a reactor, thorium doesn't require the same hot temperature / high pressure combination as uranium – which can lead to a meltdown.
Thorium reactors operate at low pressure. This allows them to passively shut down without any human intervention. If the plant at Fukushima had been thorium-based, meltdown would have been impossible.
Just seconds after the first tremor hit, the reactor would have shut down automatically, saving thousands from radiation exposure.
So you can see why interest in thorium has skyrocketed over the past two years.
"The thorium fuel cycle offers enormous energy security benefits in the long term... It is therefore an important and potentially viable technology that seems able to contribute to building credible, long-term nuclear energy scenarios."
Few people know about this, but just weeks after the disaster at Fukushima, the prime minister of Japan called for the Hamaoka nuclear plant – which provides electricity for about 16 million people – to be shut down.

He couldn't risk another nuclear disaster.
Today, scientists are looking to convert the 395-acre facility to a new design... one that runs exclusively on thorium.
And across the sea, Russia is also working to develop a fast neutron reactor that will run on safe thorium power.
But the thing is...
Neither Russia nor Japan owns enough of this resource to fuel these projects for the long term. In fact, Russia – despite being the largest country – only possesses an estimated 3% of the world's thorium supply.
So it's going to have to import its fuel from someplace else. And with hardly any global mining operations set up to fulfill this type of demand, our undervalued company is positioned to rake in billions as this safe and powerful fuel source takes off.
Based on figures from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, we're talking about an industry here that could soon be worth an estimated $11 billion.
And the fact that it's safe won't be the only reason countries flock to thorium...
An Energy Source Cheaper and More
Despite all of the controversy, nuclear is still the world's cheapest energy source. It's half the price of coal and costs five times less than natural gas.
Powerful Than We Ever Imagined
But thorium-powered nuclear will be even cheaper. Let me show you...
The cost to produce five gigawatts of energy with fuel oil – that's enough to power New York City for a year – is around $7.5 billion.
With thorium, the cost would be around $250,000.
That's less than what you'd pay for a single-bedroom home on the Upper East Side – to power all of New York City for a full year!
How is this possible? Well, as I said before – nuclear is already the world's cheapest energy source. But as much as 80% of the money spent on nuclear actually goes toward anti-meltdown measures.
And that's driven the cost to develop new reactors to as much as $14 billion.
But thorium doesn't pose the same safety risks as conventional nuclear. So some experts are predicting that the U.S. could bring new reactors online for as little as$220 million.
I'm sure you'll agree that a 99% price cut would make choosing thorium a no-brainer. (Could you imagine the uproar if the price of gasoline dropped down to a penny per gallon?)
And just look at how thorium compares to our other energy options...
With this sort of immense competitive advantage (it's cheaper, safer, cleaner and more powerful), you can see why this company is in such perfect position to capitalize.
They already have a fully operational mine with massive amounts of reserves – discovered decades ago – that could soon be processed and shipped to new plants all over the globe.
It's ridiculous. So I'll bet you're probably wondering: "How come I've never heard of thorium power before?"
Well, the answer is quite simple. Though I should warn you, it's a little unsettling...
The Cold War Secret That Has Kept Us
From Achieving Energy Independence
The truth is: Back in the 1950s and 60s, the U.S. conducted extensive research on the use of thorium reactors at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
Amazingly, thorium proved to be a more efficient energy source than uranium for thermal reactors. It also produced far less radiation.
This floored Dr. Alvin Weinberg (the lab's head physicist). But before he could further his research on thorium-powered reactors...
He was abruptly fired by the Nixon administration.
The project was decommissioned and the United States moved forward with uranium as its principal nuclear fuel source.
Why? Here's the unsettling part...
You have to remember that when all of this was going on, we were in the middle of the Cold War. The government was stockpiling nuclear bombs – and they needed plutonium.
Unfortunately, you can't create weapons-grade plutonium in a thorium reactor. As U.S. Navy physicist Alvin Radkowsky explains:
"A thorium reactor's plutonium production rate would be less than two percent of that of a standard reactor... the plutonium's isotopic content would make it unsuitable for a nuclear detonation."
The only way for us to generate the plutonium we needed was to drop mass amounts of uranium into fusion reactors.
Anyone who disagreed with this plan – like Dr. Weinberg – was silenced. And in the end, the Pentagon got its arsenal of nuclear warheads.
But they may have set us back 30 years in the process...
Kirk Sorensen, the former NASA engineer who discovered Weinberg's files and research papers, believes that if the U.S. hadn't discontinued its thorium research in the 1970s, we would have "probably achieved energy independence by around 2000."
It's not too late though.
Right now, the world's richest nations are spending billions to make up for lost time... to build the reactors needed to put an end to our reliance on fossil fuels.
And with virtually no competition, our lucky miner is in a unique position to supply the vast majority of this demand.
We're not talking about 10 or 20 years down the line either. This company is perfectly positioned to begin profiting in the very near future.
And while the Fukushima disaster was the initial catalyst for the worldwide switch to thorium, there's another situation that will send demand rocketing upward...
The Coming Nuclear Fuel Shortage That
In 2011, when the price of uranium dropped to $49/lb, mining companies like Cameco Corp. were forced to cut back on production. The uranium miner warned investors that its output would drop as much as 12% due to "unfavorable market conditions."
Has Thorium Poised to Skyrocket
These same conditions caused BHP Billiton to cancel plans to expand its Olympic Dam mine... a mine that contains an estimated 6% of the world's total uranium supply.
French miner Areva hit the brakes on two of its scheduled projects. Those facilities would have increased global uranium production by 10,000 tons annually.
You can't really blame the companies for cutting back. After all, the cost to extract uranium – and adhere to the plethora of international safety regulations – is quite steep.
But here's the real issue...
Even though the market value of uranium has dropped significantly, the amount the world consumes each year is on the rise.
By the end of 2013, the World Nuclear Association predicts we'll have used67,000 tons. And nuclear power demand from China, India and Russia is expected to double by 2020 – and quadruple by 2030.
The U.S. Geological Survey warns that "[Uranium] mine development is proceeding too slowly to fully meet [future] requirements..."
To make matters worse, the "Megatons to Megawatts Program" – an agreement we've held with Russia since 1993 – is set to expire at the end of this year. When it does, the United States will lose a significant portion of its annual uranium supply.
I'm not telling you all this to frighten you. In fact, I don't think there's any reason to panic. Because, as the saying goes, with crisis comes opportunity...
How Thorium Could Do for Nuclear Power
Professor Robert Cywinski, Dean of Applied Sciences at the University of Huddersfield, sees the uranium shortage as the window that will allow thorium to take hold.
What Fracking Did for Natural Gas
"People are beginning to realize that uranium isn't sustainable. We're going to have to breed new nuclear fuel. If we are going to the trouble of breeding, we could start to use thorium instead..."
Senatorial candidate Joe Sestak agrees. At a conference in June, he voiced his support of the adoption of thorium, calling it "a way to enhance – greatly – the accessibility of our energy." (That's not just political posturing either; as a congressman, Sestak introduced a bill that would carry out research on small thorium-powered reactors for naval power needs.)
And in January, The Telegraph wrote:
"[Thorium] could do for nuclear power what shale fracking has done for natural gas – but on a bigger scale, for much longer... and with near zero CO2 emissions."
Experts are even predicting that 100-megawatt thorium plants could eliminate all 2,300 worldwide coal plants within the next 50 years.
Which is why one Forbes contributor recently asked: "Is thorium the biggest energy breakthrough since fire?"
The benefits of this amazing energy source are so obvious, even countries that have never used nuclear power are turning to it. Chile, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are all working to bring new thorium reactors online within the next couple of years.
And as these projects near completion – along with the ones I mentioned in China, India, Japan, Norway and Russia – it will create a frenzy of demand for thorium.
Which is precisely where our undervalued mining play comes in...
A World-Class Miner Sitting on a
For more than four decades, this company supplied a massive chunk of the world's more unusual metals. In the 1960s, it was the No. 1 europium producer (the element that made color TV possible).
And at its height, the company's main facility in the Mojave Desert generated 40% of all global rare earths.

In the words of subcommittee member Bob Inglis:
"With this opportunity to reinvest in nuclear research, we have an opportunity to tackle two important issues: the nuclear fuel cycle and capital costs."
And our undervalued rare earths company will lead the way...
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, its open-air pit mine contains "widespread occurrences" of thorium sources. The largest vein measures nearly a half-mile long and 700 feet across.
Within weeks of the bill passing, this mining company's share price shot up over 50%.
